Letter XXIV. Lazarus lies sick, near death. “Is there no hope for him?” I asked. “None! The physicians say he will never rise again.”

Letter XXIII. The Healing of Eli. “Thy sins, then, be forgiven thee. Rise and go to thy house, and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee.”

Letter XXII. Render unto Caesar. “Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”

Letter XXI. The Resurrection of the Widow of Nain’s Son. “Weep not, O widow. Thy son shall live again!’’

Letter XX. The Miracle of the Widow of Nain. “Little did we think how speedily our rejoicings were to be turned into mourning!”

Letter XIX. The Roman Kneels before Jesus. “Thou art Mercury or Jupiter, O mighty God! Give me wisdom and power from the skies!” “Rise, young man,’’ answered Jesus, “There is but one God, even the Father: worship Him, and He shall reward thee!”

Letter XVIII. An Act of Homage. ‘‘Noble sir, there is no insurrection, this vast crowd moving hitherward is but an escort to the Prophet of Nazareth, who cometh to be my father’s guest.”

Letter XVII. Jesus drives the moneychangers from the Temple. “It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but ye have made it a den of thieves!”

Letter XVI (ii) The Return of Benjamin. "It seems like a vision! See how manly, how noble, how like himself he is, with no madness in his smiling eyes!’’

Letter XVI (i) John tells of Jesus’ Divine Power. ‘‘Never man did the works that He doeth. If He be not God in the flesh, He is an angel in flesh invested with divine power.”

Letter XV. The Miracle of Loaves and Fishes. "The number that were thus miraculously fed was above five thousand men, besides nearly an equal number of women and children."

Letter XIV. (ii) The Three Kings. "One declared himself descended from Shem, another from Japhet, the third from Ham; and, it is said, they mysteriously typified all the races of the earth, who by them recognised and adored the Savior of men in the child Jesus."

Letter XIV. (i) Healing the Cripple. “Seeing me,’’ continued the man, ‘‘He fixed his eyes upon me, and said, calling me by name — “Great is thy faith: As thou hast believed, be it done unto thee.”

Letter XIII. The Miracle at Cana. “Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine, and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse; but thou hast kept the good wine until now.”

Letter XII. John seeks out Jesus in the Wilderness. “Thou knowest not what thou art offering to me,” he replied, sadly. Go, and leave me to gain the victory over Satan, the prince of this world, to be tempted of whom I was led by the Spirit hither!”

Letter XI. A Discussion on the Prophecies. "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will raise unto David a righteous branch.”

Letter X. Into the Wilderness. "I go now to the wilderness, obedient to the Spirit which guideth me thither. Ye shall, after a time, behold me again. It is expedient that I go whither I go.”

Letter IX. Behold! There Stands the Christ of God! From the heavens the voice what was supposed to be thunder, shaped itself into language, and uttered these words in the hearing of every ear: “THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED. HEAR YE HIM.”

Letter VIII. The House of Mary, Martha and Lazarus. I was much struck with this whole family – each member of it possessed some separate attraction, and in the three I seemed to have found two sisters and a brother.

Letter VII. The Blind Man. He was asked by Rabbi Amos, who knew him, whither he was going. He answered that he was going to the Temple to sacrifice them. "Nay," said Amos, with surprise, "thou wilt not sacrifice thy lamb, Bartimaeus!" “I have promised them to God, Rabbi Amos, and I may not break my promise without sin.”
