Adams was arguably the most successful lawyer in Massachusetts. He abandoned his top Law Practice in Boston, refused the crown position of Advocate General of the Court of Admiralty and left his wife to manage their farm in Braintree.

During the occupation of Boston, Hancock's estate on Beacon Hill was taken over by the British using his grounds as an army camp, plundering his famous wine cellar.Dodging capture severely broke Hancock’s health.

 

 

Elbridge Gerry

On the night of April 18, 1775, Gerry was staying at a Menotomy tavern directly along the road to Lexington. As the British marched by, he was forced to flee in his nightshirt, spending the freezing night hiding in a cornfield to evade capture.


Robert Treat Paine
Robert Treat Paine

Paine was appointed chairman of the congressional committee tasked with procuring gunpowder, muskets, and artillery for the Continental Army. This required him to manage weapons production under severe financial deficits.

Sacrifices made during the Revolution

On the night of April 18, 1775, Adams was forced to flee through the Lexington backwoods in the dark, leaving behind his home and everything he owned. Soldiers vandalized and heavily damaged his house, using it as a military barracks.
