Honoring Purple Heart Day

On this day August 7, 243 years ago, General George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit to recognize soldiers serving under him. Today, this award is known as the Purple Heart.

Initially named the Badge of Military Merit by Army Gen. George Washington, the Purple Heart is the oldest and one of the most esteemed military awards given by the U.S. to its service members.


The Sacred Medal of Valor

Often referred to as "the medal nobody wants," this sacred honor recognizes the bravery and sacrifice of men and women who were injured or lost their lives in combat.


It serves as a poignant reminder of the profound costs of war and the valor of those who serve in defense of America. On National Purple Heart Day we pay tribute to the bravery of those who served and sacrificed.

And as you accept It and ask It to make you the Strength of Freedom in you to protect America and to send It forth within the Nation to strengthen all who honestly and sincerely stand for the Freedom of this Land of Light, It becomes the Protection of the Heart of the World. And each of you can be that Sacred Fire Heart of Protection to the Heart of the World.

The Heart of the World needs Protection if the Life in the world is to survive."
