250 years on: The Greatest Break-Up Letter Ever Written!

Updated: 1 day ago

At just 33 years old, Thomas Jefferson, laid out with cold moral clarity, the licentiousness of the British government’s unscrupulous dealings with the American colonies, and declared what was now required of those men whom still sought to redress such grievousness, when all other avenues had failed.

“Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends [life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness], it is the Right of the People to alter or to ABOLISH it.”

The Declaration’s  deliberate, cutting language paired with emotional steadiness and unyielding conviction, is precisely why this parchment’s immortal words still resonate  to so many nearly 250 years later.

The Declaration of Independence went on to become the world’s greatest break-up letter.

It is recorded that Jefferson revised the Declaration of Independence with the help of Benjamin Franklin and John Adams dozens of times before it was finalized.

To hear the Declaration of Independence read out loud, is to enter fully into the minds and conviction of those who pledged their lives, honor and fortunes to establish a simple, yet elusive ideal – Freedom.
